Description
A crispy, golden-brown pastry filled with melty cheese and tender chicken. Perfect as a savory appetizer, brunch dish, or light dinner.
Ingredients
- 1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 cup cooked and shredded chicken breast
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or feta)
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 egg yolk (for egg wash)
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
1️⃣ Prepare Ingredients: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Shred the cooked chicken and mix it with cheese, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
2️⃣ Roll Out Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface. Cut it into two equal rectangles—one for the base and one for the top.
3️⃣ Assemble the Jalousie: Spread the chicken and cheese mixture evenly over the base layer, leaving a ½-inch border. Cover with the top pastry layer, scoring slits into it for steam to escape.
4️⃣ Bake the Jalousie: Brush the top layer with egg wash and bake on a lined tray for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and flaky.
5️⃣ Serve and Enjoy: Let the jalousie cool for 5 minutes before slicing. Garnish with parsley and serve warm.
Notes
- Storage: Refrigerate leftovers for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 1 month.
- Reheating: Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10 minutes to restore crispiness. Avoid microwaving as it may make the pastry soggy.
- Variations: Swap chicken for spinach and ricotta, buffalo chicken, or mushrooms and Swiss cheese for different flavors.
