Description

A soft, buttery braided brioche loaf filled with rich chocolate chips. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or an indulgent dessert. This recipe combines classic French-inspired baking with the sweetness of chocolate chips for a bakery-style treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 4 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 10 tbsp unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Combine warm milk, active dry yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together bread flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, eggs, and softened butter to the dry ingredients.
  4. Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic (about 10 minutes using a stand mixer with a dough hook).
  5. Gently fold in the chocolate chips, ensuring even distribution.
  6. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm spot for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  7. Divide the dough into three equal portions and roll them into strands.
  8. Braid the strands together, pinch the ends to seal, and place the braided dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Cover and let it rise again for 45-60 minutes until puffy.
  10. Brush the top with an egg wash for a golden finish.
  11. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Let cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

  • Chocolate Variation: Use milk or dark chocolate chips for a sweeter or richer flavor.
  • Flavor Enhancements: Add orange zest or a teaspoon of vanilla extract for extra aroma.
  • Storage Tip: Wrap leftovers in plastic wrap and store at room temperature for 2-3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
