A soft, buttery braided brioche loaf filled with rich chocolate chips. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or an indulgent dessert. This recipe combines classic French-inspired baking with the sweetness of chocolate chips for a bakery-style treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 1/2 cups bread flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 4 large eggs (room temperature)
- 10 tbsp unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Combine warm milk, active dry yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together bread flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture, eggs, and softened butter to the dry ingredients.
- Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic (about 10 minutes using a stand mixer with a dough hook).
- Gently fold in the chocolate chips, ensuring even distribution.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm spot for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Divide the dough into three equal portions and roll them into strands.
- Braid the strands together, pinch the ends to seal, and place the braided dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Cover and let it rise again for 45-60 minutes until puffy.
- Brush the top with an egg wash for a golden finish.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving warm.
